
While developing a congruent working environment does require careful planning and thorough investigation, the result is relatively simple to maintain. As well, numerous rewards accompany the creation of a meaningful workplace, not the least of which is to influence and reward those who work in and use the space. An effective work environment increases productivity, incites enthusiasm and contributes to staff wellness. An environment reflecting a healthy corporate philosophy attracts customers far beyond the point during which an actual transaction occurs. Since intuition influences our perceptions and guides much of our decision-making, businesses can benefit by designing work spaces with this knowledge in mind. Once a corporate mission is realized throughout the working environment, the result honors employees, customers and the company itself. Clearly, enhancing a workplace environment is easily one of the most efficient tools for counteracting the debilitating effects of competition at many levels. The benefits of creating a working environment congruent with a company's philosophy vary based upon business type and market. And, while the process for creating real change in the workplace is not as complicated or as costly as might be imagined, it does require absolute attention. When actualized, the congruent business environment: ~ reflects a company's difference; that is, what they do well or better than the competition. A company must be clear on what makes them different in order to execute this ideal in the environment. Without clarity, customers are confused. Differences might relate to a specific product, staff expertise, customer care or unique type of in-store entertainment. Visual cues that result in a complete and thoughtful environment affect customers and offer them valuable information for understanding the business at a deeper level. Consider: What qualities make us uniquely different? How are we absolutely different from the competition? ~ serves and honors employees. In today's employee-competitive marketplace, a thoughtful corporate environment provides another powerful tool for hiring and retention negotiation. If a corporate culture emphasizes high-energy and fun, the environment should reflect that. When staff are expected to be productive, the tools and technology they need to perform their tasks should be at their fingertips. |
