Richard has worked in the independent film and video production business for over 23 years as a freelance producer and director, executive producer, director of photography and editor. Having worked with clients such as Intel, AT&T, Freightliner /Mercedes Benz, Tektronix, Sequent Computer, Johnson & Johnson/ Ethicon Endo-surgery, and Mentor Graphics, he has also won awards from competitions such as the New York Film and Video Festival, JVC Video Festival, Telly Awards, Clara Barton Awards (National Red Cross), Emerald City Awards and several others. Likewise, Richard has served as president and board member for the Oregon Media Production Association, been on the board of directors for the Oregon Film & Video Foundation, and is an active member of the International Television Association and the Independent Feature Project.

Before forming Blackthorn Group, Richard worked for independent production companies including Mincey productions (1984-86) and MIRA Film and Video (1988-1992).

Life partners Richard and Myrl Wright have operated Blackthorn Group together for the last seven years in Portland, Oregon. Myrl is the Business Manager and Production Coordinator, and Richard performs as Executive Producer, Producer and Director.

They enjoy their home both as dwelling and successful home office, and have put a lot of work into improving both the structure and surrounding landscape this year.

The Wrights are patrons of the local and regional arts by attending local theater and music events. Both also attend local film festivals and see about 125 feature films each year.

Besides their long term experience in producing high quality corporate communications for their wide range of clients, they are also in development on three independent feature film projects, a series of news features for television on health topics, three series for cable television and a children's television series.
