Titled "The Web Browser as a Unifying Agent for Radiology and Health Care Enterprise" was co-authored and presented by Dr. Harry Garland at the SCAR Conference in Philadelphia in early June. Dr. Harry T. Garland Harry Garland is Vice President of Canon R&D Center Americas (formerly Canon Research Center America, CRA). CRA is the U.S. research organization for Canon, Inc., a $25 billion company with 80,000 employees worldwide. Prior to joining Canon, Harry served as President of Cromemco, Inc., a successful computer company.

Harry received a B.A. degree in mathematics from Kalamazoo College, and a Ph.D. degree in Biophysics from Stanford University. At Stanford he served as lecturer and assistant chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering where he developed the University's first courses in microprocessor systems. He has written three books including "Introduction to Microprocessor Systems" published by McGraw- Hill.

CRA's industry experienced management and core group of scientists and engineers has made the organization known as a leader in both technology and innovative vision. CRA is a significant contributor to the patent position of Canon. Successful research has resulted in 150 patents for Canon in the areas of OCR for document retrieval, fuzzy search algorithms, hand written character OCR, digital paper, communications, image databases, medical imaging, and digital television. The Canon model DR5080-C scanner was inspired from CRA's research in high-speed scanner technology.

Ms. Carol S. Evans (Fannin), is the Administrative Director of the Heart Center at UTMB. She joined the University in 1996 to consolidate the Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery into a Cardiovascular Service Line.
