• Involved team: Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Suppliers
  • Major buy or Build decisions for the sub-systems can be made during this phase.
  • All product implementation creativity takes place here. If the team agrees to the PRS then suspend all further modifications ('freeze' it) and implement change control management (SOP).
  • Subsystem design creativity takes place here.
  • Assess PRS changes and implement with Product Change Requests (may need to go back to previous phase). Then freeze the PRS at the end of this phase.
  • Don't freeze the DDOC and DTR2 at this point, as they may change somewhat during the implementation and verification stage, but do implement the change control process on all documents.
  • Some production and quality control (QC) concepts are preliminarily developed, but not yet detailed - see Product Engineering - What's Quality Got to do with it?
  • Acquire development tools.
  • If the business case is not acceptable at the end of this phase, the project can be stopped with moderate financial losses; however, this is the last chance to do this without incurring extensive losses.
