Connectivity {#10} Product MUST properly interface with intended and expected ancillary products, software, etc. - this influences:

  • Design, architecture, customization
  • Standards
  • All testing
  • Documentation
  • Product validation, service, installation, upgrades and bug corrections
  • Business technology optimization
  • Waste and cycle times (user trials, training, testing)
  • End-of-Life requirements and procedures
  • For example, if a product is not designed to connect to remote and standard test equipment, then installation and test costs grow.

Modularity {#11} Describes the extensibility of a product from the producer standpoint, which influences:

  • Design, architecture, customization
  • All testing
  • Corporate portfolio optimization
  • Product validation
  • End-of-Life requirements and procedures
  • Business optimizati0n
  • For example, if it is known that a product is only the leading edge of a product line, then it can be designed such that features can be easily added to create new models.
